SEAMUS

My dreams have crafted themselves into reality. Everything about this feels real, but holding Neri against my chest as we lie on my favorite couch in my favorite room is a fantasy.

A fantasy that involves her drooling on my arm.

That’s not a detail I expected my brain to add, but when the synapses are firing off to give me something as amazing as this, who cares what odd little quirks get added in? Like the tickle of her hair under my chin and the chafe of my sweatpants against my hard dick.

That’s all fine when I get to pretend this is real life and enjoy the way my memory has drawn up the exact scent of her fresh-rain smell.

Even earning a PhD never had me wanting to shake my brain’s hand so much as in this moment.

“Ung,” dream Neri grunts as she shifts against me.

Her butt presses backward into my greedy erection that suddenly seems too solid for dreamland.

But that would mean—

“Seamus?”

This is real.

“Yeah?” The word rasps from my throat, and I clear the sleepy disbelief from my voice as best I can.

“You’re awake.” This time, when Neri shifts, it’s not backward but around. She turns her body in my arms until we’re face-to-face.

She has to know I’m hard. There’s no way to hide the length between us unless I shove a wooden board in front of my dick to keep everything flat. Still, she doesn’t make any move or indication she notices.

“How are you feeling?”

“Me? Great!” That was enthusiastic. “Fine, I mean. Good. Swell.” Finned One, please take my ability to speak.

But Neri’s slow-blooming smile truly has the power to render me speechless. “Well, you’re still not your normal self, but you don’t sound drunk anymore.”

And that’s when my memories flood in. The dark moon swim. The envy at seeing my brother with his mate. Stumbling around for my phone.

The texts.

“Fuck,” I groan, turning my face so I can smash it into a throw pillow and hide from reality.

“Hey there.” A firm pressure against my neck feels an awful lot like her hand on my bare skin, and every ounce of my will goes to making sure my hips don’t rock forward with the pleasure of the touch. “Can you look at me? Tell me what happened this morning? You were really out of it, and I still don’t know why.”

Of course she doesn’t. Dragging in a breath and shoving down my mortification to deal with later, I rotate my head until I meet her silvery stare. So close. Just a few inches between our faces. I could kiss her. Just lean in and press my mouth against her plush lips.

But I’ve been enough of an ass for the day. For the decade really.

“When a selkie hasn’t worn their skin for a stretch and then they go on a long swim, the experience can be intoxicating. The sunrise seems to be what sets us off. That’s what happened. I was as good as wasted this morning. Damn The Finned One’s games.
